![]() The people of Moclín parade a large painting of a Nazarene on which they rub a cloth to request favours: They say that this painting of Jesus of Nazareth was ceded by the Catholic Monarchs to the hamlet when it was conquered by the Christian armies. According to history the name of Christ of the Cloth with which it is designated, comes from the tradition of a church clerk recovering his sight after covering his eyes with a cloth or veil; the disease that the servant of the Church suffered, surely was cataracts. The image is impressive. The pilgrimage will be on October 5, but for the days before different liturgies are planned. On Sunday, after 11:00 Mass, the painting with the image of the Christ of the Cloth is lowered for worship. A very authentic pilgrimage, small, without strain or exaggeration, but deeply felt by locals. |

Moclín is only a half an hour from Granada, between spectacular scenery of mountains and olive trees. The most appropriate way, being the shortest and providing the best views is the GR-3408 road, which runs from Granada to Pinos Puente, then Moclín.

History & Legends
Located in the Granada Hills, about 35 km. from Granada, at an altitude of 1000 m. and with a population of around 500 inhabitants. The origin of Moclín is linked to the Moorish kingdom of Granada. The Hisn al-Muklin or “fortress of the pupils” was built on a rock, with the objective of monitoring the pass between Alcalá la Real and Granada.
Boabdil’s soldiers knew it by the name of "the shield of Granada", playing an important role in the war against Granada, especially after the taking of Alcalá la Real by Alfonso XI in 1341. For 150 years or so it was frontier land and a key piece in the northern defence line, along with Íllora and Colomera.
It was the scene of several clashes, the most prominent of which occurred in 1485 when the Count of Cabra, sent by the Catholic Monarchs to take it, was severely beaten on the Campo de la Matanza (killing fields) by the troops of El Zagal. However, a year later it was taken after three days of assault, with the people capitulating on 26 July 1486.
